Family Literacy Programs
The Jubilee Family
Literacy Project directs a comprehensive approach in developing
educational classes for families in the Jubilee Park neighborhood.
Classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), Pre-GED/GED, Computer
Literacy and Family Literacy activities provide a continuum of
educational support for the whole family. Jubilee's Family Literacy
Project engages students in learning experiences that are culturally
relevant and realistic. Parents can achieve their personal goals in
pursuit of furthering their education and in helping their children
prepare for success in school. Jubilee is the neighborhood catalyst in
education, serving families living in Southeast Dallas
English as a Second Language (ESL) Class
ESL Classes are directed at those individuals in the community, and outside as well, looking to improve their English language skills, especially their conversational English. Students who participate in class are on my levels of English proficiency. Improving English skills gives our community to better and more marketable job skills. They are able to help their children with homework and converse confidently with other English language speakers. Classes are taught by Mr. Eddie Hernandez. ESL Classes. are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9:00-12:00. A Wednesday night class, 6:00-8:00pm has also been added due to the growing demand and popularity of the class.
Computer Literacy Class
These classes, also taught by Mr. Eddie Hernandez, focus on basic computer skills for students such as use of keyboard, mouse, numbers, scrolling function, opening and closing docuents. Students create email accounts and learn how to maneauver around Internet search engines. Another important skill learned by students is proper use of Microsoft functions, Word, PowerPoint and Excel for checkbook balancing. Students are on all levels. Currently classes are limited to 12 students, as only 12 computers are available at Jubilee. The new Jubilee Community Center will be completely wireless, turning every classroom into a computer class with unlimited possibilities! Classes are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00-12:00pm.
GED/Pre-GED Class
These classes, taught by Ms. Mary Hernandez, Jubilee's Program Director, are offered Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 6:00-8:00pm as well as Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10:30-12:30. For those who did not find success in a traditional school setting, but still wish to continue their education, Jubilee's GED classes offer a wondeful alternative. Students are nurtured in a learning environment and receive tremendous support. Often, one-on-one tutoring is available.
All classes are open and free to the public! For more information please call, (214) 887-1364.
